Karen Whylie

Karen photographs people and animals, on location.  Rather than setting up shots in a studio,  her most natural and compelling photographs come from reacting to people, animals, the environment and light in combination.   These are the ones that last, that bring up memories and emotions.  Karen studied Sociology at Western, spent four years immersed in photography at Ryerson, then began her career shooting for magazines and private clients.  Alongside her own photography, Karen also gets to teach the inspiring Media Studies students at the University of Guelph Humber.  She has also been shooting weddings for 2 decades –  from intimate gatherings to three day fetes.   On top of that, Karen shoots individual and family portraits.  In her spare time she dabbles in her own artistic pursuits – like the rare breed series.  Karen has been honoured to receive awards for her photography.  PDN’s Top Knot award, Wedluxe Magazine’s Wedding of the Year and the Art Directors’ Club Award are highlights.
