Artist Statement:
After years of chronic illness and health challenges, capturing the beauty of the landscape is a way of establishing that I am still here. I am incredibly grateful for my ability to see, and paint again, after a tumour compressed my optic nerve and I lost my vision for a few months. After my vision was restored with surgery, I noticed every nuance of colour and light in the space around me. It is my intention in my work to notice the subtle colours and delicate beauty in the local landscape, and to capture it in a way that brings calm energy into a personal space. For me, the landscape represents our resilience, and grounds and holds us during turbulent times.
